Consultant, User Experience Research & Design

This position marks a shift in domain from finance to law. The Weil Gotshal marketing team needed help overhauling its portal homepage and information architecture while simultaneously moving it from WebSphere to SharePoint. Past efforts to improve the portal had been hampered by internal conflicts and circular dialogue; I was able to interview legal and support staff to determine their needs and develop a strategy that moved the project forward.

 

HSBC Private Bank, NYC 2001 — 2008

Assistant Vice-President, eBusiness

Lead interface design and prototype builder for HSBCPB's online banking, intranet, and enterprise software. Specialty: integrating different business units with complicated requirements into a single entity.

Projects included:

  • The integration of HSBCPB's domestic and international online banking websites into a single website, including design & prototypes for all use cases, and copywriting for error message handling
  • Paper statement suppression project, comprised of a client-facing piece and an employee-facing component for managing client entitlements
  • Customer authentication module upgrade which consisted of a "wizard" allowing customers to create freeform question-answer sets, and the log-in page itelf
  • Responsible for guiding communication between business and I.T. teams using visual presentations and documentation; tasked with achieving balance between existing infrastructure constraints and needs of the end user.
  • Responsible for authoring and maintaining HSBCPB's Online Standards Guide, used worldwide. Copywriter, editor, and proofreader for client-facing and employee-facing marketing initiatives and training guides.
  • QA testing and support during code deployment.
  • Direction of third-party design agencies and print vendors.
  • Creation of interactive Flash maps for the HSBCPB.com Office Locations section.
  • Daily project management for the several interdepartmental intranet sites.

 

iXL, NYC 1998 — 2001

Senior Art Director

Main account: TDWaterhouse.com, design makeover & integration of their public & brokerage websites, including style guide. After completion, TDWaterhouse received #1 ranking by Gomez for website usability. Directed creation of TDW’s Retirement Planning Center, an aggregate of over twenty 3rd-party vendor applications into a single cohesive look & feel. Redesign of the Chase.com homepage in 1999 (’99) and Chase’s Financial News & Quotes section. Makeover and maintenance for Moodys Investor Services. Financial Communications Award award winner for TDWaterhouse’s Are You Prepared? 2000 tax season banner ad campaign.

ModemMedia, NYC 1996 — 1998

Lead Designer

Main accounts: JCPenney and Delta. Worked as part of three-person team (with art director and copywriter) as information architect, website designer and banner animator. Designed interface for AIRSHOW, Delta Airlines’s first onboard entertainment system.

National Football League, NYC 1994 — 1996

Multimedia and Print Production Artist

Created prototype for the first NFLP intranet. Created print brochures and ads using Quark, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Created large-scale interactive presentations with Macromedia Director; drew storyboards for commercials; designed TV screens for video post-production.
